And yet again, quit the TLO

Dear [TLO controller]

Well, you’re not “setting the record straight” at all, as you state,
I’m afraid. Quite the reverse. It’s selective self-justification on
your part.

You claim two of the three TLOers calling for me to be banned are
“political conservatives” (well, that must make it fine!) Clearly
then, the one who isn’t is probably [name redacted] (or possibly [name redacted] whose description of me as a “fucking c**t” you’ve allowed, I note, to remain on the Aickman thread). [update, not any longer, he’s banned too] Of the two others I can make an educated guess they would be “Cannibal Cop” (whoever he may be) and [name redacted] (who’s certainly not “conservative”, believe me; though he does fancy himself as a dandified Philosopher-King above such things as democracy). So, that’s two people with a recently acquired personal animus against me and one pseudonymous person who threatens to block anyone who disagrees with him as a matter of course. Still, to be agreeable, I’ll concede this Cannibal Cop person might be a conservative. For what that’s worth of course. Anyway, the calls for a ban (even historically) do overwhelmingly hail from a wave of millennial Leftists and their older facilitators who make an online song-and-dance out of their “victimhood” status. And don’t think, by the way, I haven’t tried being considerate and kind towards these people. I have. It came back to bite me the minute I stopped providing unconditional applause and public promotion for their every single literary activity. What they want is an endless cry of affirmation of their worth right now, whether it’s earned or not.

I suggest you urgently need a panel of moderators with differing perspectives. On the TLO any vocal “conservative” who dared to speak their mind regularly would fall foul, as I did, of the endless ranks of Leftists who wilfully scatter obsessive, false accusations of racism, Nazism, Alt-Right, etc etc around like poisonous confetti whenever they’re challenged. I suffered from that for years without any one of the perpetrators being banned by you, in fact they exponentially proliferated: Hidden X, Mr Cheev, Forgotten Prisoner, Dima Sokal, ChildofOldLeech, (Teguififthzeal/Luxfugio), Pharpetron, ‘Brian Janson’ etc etc (This is only off the top of my head. Need I go on?). So much for “balance”, then. Double standards negligently facilitated the problem: you could have nipped it in the bud or even curtailed it during my two or three year absence from the TLO when the cadre of obsessives then had a totally free hand. You say you only ban a person when one exhibits “consistently abusive and/or obsessive, aggressive behaviour towards members”. Not if it’s behaviour aimed at me, though. I got sick of seeing no action being taken. Still, as a point of honour, despite all the libels, smears, provocations and guilt-by-association I suffered, and from various quarters, never once did I, or would I, have called for a ban on anyone. It’s a admission of defeat; simply shutting up detractors rather than proving them wrong is always a mistake.

Anyway, I think a disinterested, truly impartial, moderator would have handled a contributor of long-standing as follows: consider the context, then issue a warning where required about poor behavior within the thread, and, if that failed, email the offender privately calling for order and requesting it cease. Then, and only then, would any ban be appropriate. Impulsively slapping a ban in place without a warning, especially when it affects someone like me who doesn’t hide away under an online pseudonym, smacks far too much of an attempt at a Leftist closing of ranks.

Lastly, I don’t see what my literary work has to do with any of this and why you keep bringing it up. It’s utterly irrelevant.

Now the record is really set straight. That’s a jolly old (private)
grenade for you.

All best etc
Mark S.”
